Vector Portrait

I was commisioned to create a vector portrait for the two people in the image. Its something i was experimenting with for a while in order to get the correct style, after researching so many different solutions. I settled on a simple 3 or 4 tone design in order for it to be simple but at the same time look like the people in the image.

Type Portrait

I created this in Illustrator as a birthday present to the girl in it. I wanted to play around with different ways of capturing someone in a portrait graphically and using type was one way i wanted to explore. I feel the result is good and will be experimenting more with type in the future.

Insert Face Here

I wanted to play upon the trend we have to constantly use the image of che guvara. It interests me how easily we use this iconic image and manipulate it for modern use. Is the idea more iconic than the person himself?

Peter Sciretta poster designs

I like the idea of designing concept films posters and this i like very much from Peter Sciretta. The idea is to use all the adevertising and brands featured in the movie and place them on the poster. The idea is great and the excecution is also very stylish and remenicent of Peter Saville's Factory Record's designs.

do your eyes hurt?

another experiment in my "legibility is overrated" series. i used Illustrator to create the EPS of the lines amd dots with the help of the pathfinder tool. i feel the result is successful due to the fact it can be quite off putting to read, and as a result not very legible.

Concept Oxford Covers

Brief was to create new covers for the Oxford range of dictionary and thesaurus'. The covers had to exciting and visually attractive, as well as making language and words exciting.
My solution was to create everyday objects out of words and type; to be minimal but interesting. This theme would run throughout the covers and i feel its very successful.

2001: A Space Odyssey

second film poster design for my art styles film festival. Space Odyssey is the perfect futurist movie giving us a glimpse into a world where limits are broken. The ease of which space travel is shown i felt summed up the films futurist element and to show this i re-designed the tube map to fit in with space travel.

First of four posters for my film festival based on past art styles. For modernism i chose Full Metal Jacket; based on de-constructing the individual i felt it was a good example of the art style. The use of the eye and gun barrel is to show how the soldiers are trained to see everything as a target.

Legibility is Overrated

another photoshop experiment. found this nice font called bifurk and decided to have a play around with it. made using "difference" and "overlay" effects.

Warning

This is a design i for a project to create a new sign or symbol that would be useful in todays world. Our country has a very prominent drinking culture which results in various comical drunk behaviour. After researching the work of Johnathan Barnbrook i decided on making a light-hearted sign that would clearly advertise the problem in a satirical way.

me, myself and my designs

My name is Kevin Murphy and i'm a graphic designer from London, England. i graduated from Croydon College in 2008 with a 2:1 BA degree and am currently looking for work. My preference is simple, non-complicated design. I firmly believe as a visual communicater that simple design makes for a clearer message.

My favourite designers and artists from over the years include, Banksy, John Heartfield, Destjil and Peter Saville.

My main interest in design is the use of appropriation. i'm a big fan of its use and hope to master its philosophy.

Currently i am working freelance working for Premier models.
